Waiting On Wednesday!

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine, that highlights upcoming book releases that everyone is waiting on.

This weeks selection is:

Title: Zodiac
Author: Romina Russell
Published: December 9th, 2014
Goodreads Summary:

At the dawn of time, there were thirteen Houses in the Zodiac galaxy. Now, only twelve remain. . . .

In the Zodiac galaxy, your astrological sign determines everything about you. The stars tell the story of your life, and nothing—and nobody—is real unless you can actually touch them.

It’s a galaxy divided, where personalities clash and suspicions run high. Everyone is a potential enemy, so it’s best to stick to your kind. Hard-working realists in House Virgo scoff at sweet-talking Librans, who use stellar social skills to climb to the top. And while the brooding twins of House Gemini take forever to make a decision, optimistic Sagittarians hop from adventure to adventure without a thought.

House Cancer prizes loyalty and honesty above all else. When an unforeseen catastrophe strikes their ocean planet, the stars select sixteen-year-old Rho as their new Guardian. Rho suspects an ancient, power-hungry evil of legend has returned to exact revenge across the entire Zodiac. But Rho is an unknown novice and one of the youngest Guardians ever. Who should believe her?

And with the stars anywhere but in her favor, how can Rho defeat an enemy she can’t touch?

This first book of an epic sci-fi-meets-high-fantasy series takes place in a galaxy inspired by the twelve astrological signs—rendered with stunning complexity that both transports readers to a fascinating new world and holds up a mirror to reflect how we can better know each other in our own.

My Thoughts:

I am so curious about the idea of adding astrology, I can't wait to check this one out!

Guest Post: Jessica Verdi, The Summer I Wasn't Me

Published: April 1st, 2014
Goodreads Summary:

Lexi has a secret.

She never meant for her mom to find out. And now she's afraid that what's left of her family is going to fall apart for good.

Lexi knows she can fix everything. She can change. She can learn to like boys. New Horizons summer camp has promised to transform her life, and there's nothing she wants more than to start over.

But sometimes love has its own path...

Hi Kristin! Thank you so much for having me on your blog! I’m feeling in a musical kind mood right now, so I thought I’d talk a little bit about the song that inspired me to write The Summer I Wasn’t Me. The story is about seventeen-year-old Lexi, a girl who agrees to spend the summer at an ex-gay camp (also called a conversion camp) in an effort to try to become the daughter she knows her god-fearing, traditional mother wants.
I got the idea for the book one day while listening to Lady Gaga’s “Hair”—in particular the acoustic version she performed on the Howard Stern Show. Check it out here:
It’s such a gorgeous song, and the chorus goes, “I just want to be myself and I want you to love me for who I am… I just want to be free, I just want to be me, and I want lots of friends that invite me to their parties. Don’t want to change, I don’t want to be ashamed.” And I started thinking about all the kids who aren’t loved for who they are, and it made me so sad. And that’s when I knew I had to tell Lexi’s story. I wanted to write about that girl. I wanted to write for that girl. I hope readers enjoy reading about Lexi and her friends. And hopefully someday soon ex-gay camps will truly be a thing of the past.

Excerpt Blast: All Lined Up By: Cora Carmack

ALL LINED UP Synopsis:

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cora Carmack follows up her trio of hits—Losing It, Faking It, and Finding It—with this thrilling first novel in an explosive series bursting with the Texas flavor, edge, and steamy romance of Friday Night Lights.

In Texas, two things are cherished above all else—football and gossip. My life has always been ruled by both.

Dallas Cole loathes football. That's what happens when you spend your whole childhood coming in second to a sport. College is her time to step out of the bleachers, and put the playing field (and the players) in her past.

But life doesn't always go as planned. As if going to the same college as her football star ex wasn’t bad enough, her father, a Texas high school coaching phenom, has decided to make the jump to college ball… as the new head coach at Rusk University. Dallas finds herself in the shadows of her father and football all over again.

Carson McClain is determined to go from second-string quarterback to the starting line-up. He needs the scholarship and the future that football provides. But when a beautiful redhead literally falls into his life, his focus is more than tested. It's obliterated.

Dallas doesn't know Carson is on the team. Carson doesn't know that Dallas is his new coach's daughter.

And neither of them know how to walk away from the attraction they feel.

Giveaway: Don't Even Think About It By: Sarah Mlynowski

Today  I am lucky enough to have an awesome giveaway of a book that I am reading right now that I am really enjoying and it is so much fun Don't Even Think About It By: Sarah Mlynowski. I am giving away one arc to a lucky U.S. only winner. Enter the rafflecopter below and good luck!

Published: March 11th, 2014
Goodreads Summary:

Contemporary teen fiction with romance, secrets, scandals, and ESP from the author of Ten Things We Did (And Probably Shouldn't Have).

We weren't always like this. We used to be average New York City high school sophomores. Until our homeroom went for flu shots. We were prepared for some side effects. Maybe a headache. Maybe a sore arm. We definitely didn't expect to get telepathic powers. But suddenly we could hear what everyone was thinking. Our friends. Our parents. Our crushes. Now we all know that Tess is in love with her best friend, Teddy. That Mackenzie cheated on Cooper. That, um, Nurse Carmichael used to be a stripper.

Since we've kept our freakish skill a secret, we can sit next to the class brainiac and ace our tests. We can dump our boyfriends right before they dump us. We know what our friends really think of our jeans, our breath, our new bangs. We always know what's coming. Some of us will thrive. Some of us will crack. None of us will ever be the same.
So stop obsessing about your ex. We're always listening.

Review: Being Sloane Jacobs By: Lauren Morrill

Title: Being Sloane Jacobs
Author : Lauren Morrill
Published : January 7th, 2014
Source : Netgalley
My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Goodreads Summary:

Meet Sloane Emily Jacobs: a seriously stressed-out figure-skater from Washington, D.C., who choked during junior nationals and isn’t sure she’s ready for a comeback. What she does know is that she’d give anything to escape the mass of misery that is her life.

Now meet Sloane Devon Jacobs, a spunky ice hockey player from Philly who’s been suspended from her team for too many aggressive hip checks. Her punishment? Hockey camp, now, when she’s playing the worst she’s ever played. If she messes up? Her life will be over.

When the two Sloanes meet by chance in Montreal and decide to trade places for the summer, each girl thinks she’s the lucky one: no strangers to judge or laugh at Sloane Emily, no scouts expecting Sloane Devon to be a hero. But it didn’t occur to Sloane E. that while avoiding sequins and axels she might meet a hockey hottie—and Sloane D. never expected to run into a familiar (and very good-looking) face from home. It’s not long before the Sloanes discover that convincing people you’re someone else might be more difficult than being yourself.

My Thoughts:

I was super excited to read this one, I loved her debut Meant To Be, it was so adorable and fun and I was hoping that I loved Being Sloane Jacobs just as much. I didn’t love it as much as Meant To Be but, it was still adorable and fun. It had a movie vibe and you had to suspend a bit of belief and get over the fact that this probably couldn’t happen in real life. But, it was still so much fun.

When 2 Sloane Jacobs have a chance meeting in Canada they changed each other’s summers forever. Sloane Emily is a figure skater who isn’t so sure that going back into competitive figure skating is something she wants to do. Sloane Devon is a ice hockey player who can’t handle the pressure of playing good enough to get into college. They decide to switch places and they each go  to the other’s sports camp for the summer and fun, romance, and lessons are learned.

I loved getting to see each of the girls in the different elements trying to be the other girl because they were complete opposites. They both learned so much about each sport and found so much of themselves through switching places and that made it so much fun.

Overall, Lauren Morrill created another book that gives you the good feelings but, it lacked a bit compared to Meant To Be. If you are looking for a read that makes you feel good, definitely check this one out.
