Blog Tour: Guest Post, Review, and Giveaway, Tragic (Rook and Ronin #1) By: J.A. Huss

 Guest Post:

First of all, Colorado is one of the most beautiful places on Earth.  I love living in Colorado, I’m not from here, but I’ve been here for fifteen years. Almost all of my books are set in Colorado.  My science fiction series is all centralized around Colorado Springs, various places in the mountains, and the Eastern Plains.  TRAGIC takes place in Denver, LoDo/Five Points, to be exact.  Right across from Coors Field, which is our baseball stadium, for those not familiar with the Rockies.

I didn’t really plan it that way, but when I pulled up Google Maps to find the Five Points boundary I saw a large building sitting across the street from the stadium and decided to make that Chaput Studios.  From there the world building just took off and I really, really love the Denver I created in the Rook and Ronin books.

I became a full time write this past January, but before that I spent the last seven years as a farm inspector for the State of Colorado.  My job was to ride around the Eastern Plains in some very stupid little cars that had no business being on a dirt road, and go check out the eight large commercial hog farms we have here.

It was a pretty easy job, they were all upstanding people, the corporations they worked for weren’t bad guys looking to pollute the water like people try and make them out to be.  They were just some cool country folks that I really enjoyed working with.

But the best part of that job, besides the cool people, was being able to travel all over Colorado.  I pretty much know the eastern half of the state by heart. I spent seven years driving those dirt roads, most of which have no street signs. And it was a lot of fun watching wild turkeys in the fall, or baby cows being born in the spring.  I noticed things like whether or not there were a lot of antelope around this year or if we were gonna have a good or bad corn season.

I feel like I know Colorado very well and we’re old friends. In short, I love this state very much and I plan on writing a lot more stores set here.  There is so much to see, it’s almost ridiculous, and I hope readers enjoy their stay when they come visit Colorado in my books.

Title: Tragic (Rook and Ronin #1)

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars!
Goodreads Summary:
Rook Walsh is TRAGIC

Because life so far – just sucks. Some girls get parents. Rook got the foster care system. Some girls get Prince Charming. Rook got an abusive frog. Some girls get lucky…

Rook got a second chance.

And she took it. Because when fate throws you a bone – you grab it with both hands and run.

Antoine Chaput knows the minute he spies Rook in his photography studio that she’s got The Look. The dark and desperate look he must have to land the exclusive TRAGIC media contract.

Rook is paired up with top model, Ronin, and he’s everything her abusive ex-boyfriend wasn’t. Patient, gentle, happy, attentive, and sexy! He knows exactly what to do to make Rook blush for Antoine’s camera.

Rook’s luck changes in an instant and suddenly she’s the darling of the modeling world. It’s a dream job to go with a dream guy and all she has to do is look pretty and follow directions. But there’s always a price to pay – and Rook is about to get the bill.

My Thoughts:
This book was amazing, steamy in just the right places, everything I am looking for when I want to read a New  Adult book, J. A. Huss did an amazing job creating the characters of Rook and Ronin. Tragic was one of those books that  when I sat down to read it, nothing else matters I couldn't put it down and nobody and nothing was going to stop me from reading this book.
Rook's character is exactly what you expect her to be from reading the title of this book, tragic. She is young only  19 but, she has had more pain in her life than anyone in her life at her age deserves to have had. From growing up in foster care and junkie mother, thinking she found a way out of her life with a boyfriend who abused and terrorized her. Finally getting up enough courage to leave him she hops a bus to a new town and new life, Denver, Colorado. Living in a homeless shelter and just getting fired from her job, Rook is down on her luck but,  when a second chance at becoming a model comes her way she isn't going to let anyone stop her.
Roman is a model and in my own pictures of his imagination he is the steamiest and sexiest model that has ever existed. He has his sights on Rook, she intrigues him and it is obvious to him and everyone else that  she is broken but, he can't seem to get her off his mind  and he wants to have her for himself.
I loved this book!! Tragic is the perfect mix of steamy romance and a story of girl who wants to change her life. It's one of the few books that is written in my home state so that had me very excited and I pictured the  backdrop of Denver in the book at every chance I got, it made me enjoy the story even more. I loved that Rook's character was strong, even though she had gone through all of these terrible things in her life she didn't let anyone push her around or take advantage of her just because she is down on her luck.
Despite being a gorgeous model who could get anyone he wanted Ronin was a good guy, he knew he wanted Rook but, he wasn't going to just use her, he wanted her completely and I was all for it. He was really sweet and gentle and had me swooning page after page.
