Blog Tour: Hidden (Hidden #1) By: M Lathan Review and Giveaway!

Title: Hidden (Hidden Series #1)
Author: M. Lathan
Published:  November 12th, 2012

Goodreads Summary:

Sixteen-year-old Leah Grant has given up on being normal. She’d settle for stopping the voices in her head, intrusive visions of the future, and better odds of making it to her seventeenth birthday.

That’s the thing about pretending to be human in a world where magic used to exist – at any moment, her cover could be blown and she’ll be burned to death like the rest of the witches.

Everything changes when she loses control of her powers and flees the orphanage she grew up in. She desperately wants to be invisible but finds her face plastered on every news channel as humans panic over the possible resurgence of her kind. And now the hunters won’t give up until they find her.

Making friends for the first time in her life and falling in love with one of them drives her to discover why she is unlike any being she’s ever met – human or otherwise. The dangerous powers inside of her that would repel Nathan, her new, handsome reason for living, are priceless to some. The locked up forever kind of priceless. And to others, they are too dangerous to allow her to live.

Let’s hope she can stay hidden

My Thoughts:

This book completely and totally surprised me in the best way possible, I really enjoyed it and I was hooked from the very beginning. M. Lathan created an amazing paranormal novel, I didn't feel like it was like any of the other YA paranormal reads out there, yes it had aspects that many other books have had but, it didn't feel overdone, and the focus on the characters was what I enjoyed the most and made this book definitely one of my favorite reads of this year.

Leah Grant lived in an orphanage her whole entire life with the same kids since they were babies, they all lost their parents in a war with human vs. magical creatures.  Magic doesn't exist in their world anymore but, Leah knows that isn't true she has magical powers and she has been trying her whole life to hide them from everyone. She is alone and lonely all of the time getting bullied and teased for being weird and different which in Leah's mind all stems from the magical powers she is trying to hide. She is convinced she is a witch with no soul, and everyday is a struggle not to lose control and fight back against her tormentors. Until one day, she can't fight it anymore and she almost loses control but, it saved by a mysterious witch who wisks her off to a new life that she never knew she could have.

Leah or Christine as she ends up being called is a heartbreaking character, she is depressed and feels completely hopeless, when she  gets to begin her new life with the witch that saved her from making a big mistake she finally gets to have a life she always deserved. She begins to make friends and come out of her shell and it felt so good to finally see her be happy and realize she wasn't a soulless creature that she always thought that she was.

The plot for me was just perfect, it was fast paced and slow moving at the same time in all of the right places, their was a mix of romance and fast paced action, mystery, a little bit of everything for everyone. Each character was memorable and I definitely enjoyed learning about each and every one of the secondary characters that we meet. So much happened in this book, a story weaved seamlessly and I found myself surprised at all of the twists and turns that it took. Each character no minor their role seemed to have a larger part in the plot that you never saw coming and made it that much better to read.

Overall, Hidden was one of the best paranormal books I have read in a long time,   I can't wait to read the next book in the series and I definitely recommend this one to anyone who enjoys a paranormal read!
