Review: Pandemonium (Delirium #2) By: Lauren Oliver

Title: Pandemonium (Delirium  #2)
Author: Lauren Oliver
Published: February 28th, 2013
Source: Bought
Buy The Book: Amazon/Barnes and Noble/The Book Depository
My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars!
Goodreads Summary:

I’m pushing aside
the memory of my nightmare,
pushing aside thoughts of Alex,
pushing aside thoughts of Hana
and my old school,
push,
push,
push,
like Raven taught me to do.
The old life is dead.
But the old Lena is dead too.
I buried her.
I left her beyond a fence,
behind a wall of smoke and flame.

Lauren Oliver delivers an electrifying follow-up to her acclaimed New York Times bestseller, Delirium. This riveting, brilliant novel crackles with the fire of fierce defiance, forbidden romance, and the sparks of a revolution about to ignite

 My Thoughts:

It has been a really long time since I have read Delirium,  and I really enjoyed it but, I never got around to  Pandemonium but, with Requiem finally coming out I figured why not read them both and finish up this series. Even though it had been such a long time since I had read the first book, I didn't feel like I was lost or lacking on the plot at all.  Oliver definitely reminded me why I enjoyed reading the first book in the first place!

The book take place in two different time periods,  each chapter going back and forth to Lena when she first entered The Wilds at the end  of the first book and Lena in her current situation of working for the revolution and being back inside the walls. The change between both of these times never really bothered me except I found myself enjoying reading Lena's current situation more then I enjoyed reading about her first in The Wilds.

Lena's character definitely changes in this book and it has  made me so curious to see what she is going to be like in the last book.  So much has happened for Lena in The Wilds and  also fighting for the revolution and I never really felt like she dealt with the emotions of what happened to her, like the goodreads summary says she just kept pushing all of her emotions to the side and I couldn't help but wonder what was going to happen to her because she can't just bury  those emotions forever, she has to deal with everything she has lost eventually.

The secondary characters in this one none of them really stood out to much for me, just a couple had me interested in who they were. Lena joins a group of mostly kids when she enters The Wild who take her under their wing and teach her  how to survive, their unofficial leader Raven becomes someone who Lena really looks up to relies on to learn her new place in this world.

The romance for me was ok, it wasn't as good as the first book and not as believable but, I still found myself enjoying reading about Julian, I don't want to spoil too much about it but, for some reason the romance between Lena and Julian seemed young, younger then the romance I felt between Lena and Alex.

Overall, Lauren Oliver created a sequel that for me didn't fall into the second book slump,  full of a couple of twists that I didn't see coming, and a surprising romance. I am definitely ready to check out the last book in the trilogy.

  1. Like you, Kristin, I read Delirium a while ago (loved it) and I started reading Pandemonium recently because of Requiem coming out. I'm only a couple chapters in but I'm really liking it so far. I enjoyed your review, too. Thanks!

  3. I loved Pandemonium, even though I am, and I will be always Team Alex. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! And of couse, I agree, the romance wasn't as good as in Delirium! :)

  4. Yeah, I liked Lena and Julian, but they were no Lena and Alex. It felt more forced. Still, I loved this one. But like you, I enjoyed the NOW parts more than the time she spent in the Wilds. That was rather depressing. :P

  5. I read this in under a day and thoroughly enjoyed it! I appreciate how the author made Lena upset but not so pathetic that we lose sympathy for her. I enjoyed the growth and change of the characters and even enjoyed the way the novel switched from then to now, though I was hesitant about it in the beginning.
A great read and so far I recommend this series!
