My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars!
Goodreads Summary:
YOU CAN BE A VII. IF YOU GIVE UP EVERYTHING.

For Kitty Doe, it seems like an easy choice. She can either spend her life as a III in misery, looked down upon by the higher ranks and forced to leave the people she loves, or she can become a VII and join the most powerful family in the country.

If she says yes, Kitty will be Masked—surgically transformed into Lila Hart, the Prime Minister's niece, who died under mysterious circumstances. As a member of the Hart family, she will be famous. She will be adored. And for the first time, she will matter.

There's only one catch. She must also stop the rebellion that Lila secretly fostered, the same one that got her killed and one Kitty believes in. Faced with threats, conspiracies and a life that's not her own, she must decide which path to choose—and learn how to become more than a pawn in a twisted game she's only beginning to understand.

Previously titled Masked.

My Thoughts:
I really wasn't sure what to expect going into Pawn, I have read  Aimee's Goddess Test series and while I enjoyed it, it wasn't a favorite but, I was still really excited to see how she would dive into the dystopian genre. Now, I will admit that Carter didn't add anything new to this genre taking many things that we have seen before but, she totally and completely blew me away with her execution of it. I could not put this book down. I was thinking about it constantly when I wasn't reading it. I kept wondering where the story was going to go and I was really worried about everything, it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time and I really felt like their wasn't a dull moment in the whole book. I never felt like there was a dull moment in this book. I cannot gush enough about how much I loved this book.  Aimee Carter has added something new to the dystopian genre even though many of the concepts we have seen before, I highly, highly recommend this book!

Kitty Doe has spent her whole entire life waiting for the one moment in her life that will choose her entire future, the test. When a person turns 16 in their society they take a test which determines what job they will do in their future and their place in society from a 1 to 6. Kitty has spent her life as a 3 in a group home. When parents have more than one child in their society they are subject to a fine and when they can't pay the fine the child is taken to a group home and given the last name doe, everyone knows they were an extra.  As the summary talks about Kitty is masked as one of the most powerful women in their country Lila Hart. She literally gives up who she is physically, and has to learn everything about who Lila is and how she acts to make the country believe that she is her.

Kitty was such a strong character especially in the face of this impossible situation. She handled the whole entire thing with poise and understanding that I couldn't even imagine.  Everything she did was for the love of her life Benjy. They used her love for him against her. The whole entire presidential family was corrupt and Kitty was forced to interact with all of them, she had a different and complex relationship with each. She was tough and faced with an impossible and uncertain future she threw herself into Lila's life and was  thrown into a family that was completely full of more drama and secrets than you could ever imagine.

The romance of the book honestly was not important for me, Benjy and Kitty has grown up together and you could really feel the connection between the two of them but, it just felt so boring to me and I wasn't interested in their romance at all.

There is sooo much that I want to say about this book but, I don't want to tell you about it I want you to pre-order this book right now so you can read it yourself, I cannot say enough how awesome this book is.  Action-packed and full of twists and turns that I didn't see coming just made it even better. The only disappointment I have over this book is having to wait forever for the sequel. Writing this review has reminded me how much excitement I had over reading this book and I just want to pick it up and read it all over again.  READ THIS BOOK!!!

  4. I quite enjoyed this one too! I liked that the romance wasn't a major part of the story since Kitty and Benjy had been together so long, it let us focus on the grittier elements :D
