My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Goodreads Summary :

The year is 2009.  Nineteen-year-old Jackson Meyer is a normal guy… he’s in college, has a girlfriend… and he can travel back through time. But it’s not like the movies – nothing changes in the present after his jumps, there’s no space-time continuum issues or broken flux capacitors – it’s just harmless fun.

That is… until the day strangers burst in on Jackson and his girlfriend, Holly, and during a struggle with Jackson, Holly is fatally shot. In his panic, Jackson jumps back two years to 2007, but this is not like his previous time jumps. Now he’s stuck in 2007 and can’t get back to the future.

Desperate to somehow return to 2009 to save Holly but unable to return to his rightful year, Jackson settles into 2007 and learns what he can about his abilities.

But it’s not long before the people who shot Holly in 2009 come looking for Jackson in the past, and these “Enemies of Time” will stop at nothing to recruit this powerful young time-traveler.  Recruit… or kill him.

Piecing together the clues about his father, the Enemies of Time, and himself, Jackson must decide how far he’s willing to go to save Holly… and possibly the entire world.

 My Thoughts:

I will admit I was a bit hesitant to read this one but, only because I have read some amazing time travel books this year and I knew it would be hard to top them. Cross gave Jackson a great voice and I always enjoy reading a book with a male narrator. Tempest was a fast paced and action packed novel. I was kept on the edge of my seat and so much was happening all at once. I will admit at times I was a bit confused. Jackson was jumping through time so much at times I was confused as to what happened when and which events happened where but, by the end of the book I enjoyed the ride.

Jackson is your typical college boy, he has his beautiful blond girlfriend and is spending is summer volunteering  to run the kids summer camp with his girlfriend Holly and their friend Adam. But, Jackson can travel through time and the only other person who knows about it is Adam. Together Adam and Jackson have been  experimenting with his abilities. But, every time he goes back into time and returns to the present, nothing he has done in the past changes anything.  Everything changes one night when some strange men come for Jackson and Holly is caught up in the middle of it.  Jackson jumps back into time in all of the chaos but, this time he  can't figure out how to get  back to the present and  all he can think about is saving Holly.

Jackson was nothing if not determined, he never gave up and he did take advantage of his time traveling abilities to get to visit some people in his past that are not a part of his future. He was resourceful and he never wallowed in his situation and he was willing to do whatever it took to get back to the present and to save Holly. Along the way he finds out so many things that completely change his life and what he thought about everything.

Overall, I really enjoyed Tempest and I already have the next book ready and waiting on my shelf to be read. It didn't surpass some of the amazing time travel books I have read lately but, Cross did a great job of making the time travel action packed and  not too confusing and overdone.
