Review: Shatter Me (Shatter Me #1) By: Tahereh Mafi

Title: Shatter Me (Shatter Me #1)
Author: Tahereh Mafi
Published: November 15th, 2011
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars!
Goodreads Summary:

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war– and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior
.

My Thoughts:

Wow!!! I cannot believe that I waited so long to read this book! It was so awesome and I am in love with Mafi and her writing it was so amazing. Juliette is a character that I had an immediate connection with because Mafi immediately opens the reader up to Juliette and you get to see inside her soul down to who she really is and she doesn't just scratch the surface of who she is.

Juliette's touch kills people. Her parents abandoned her and society has convinced her that she is a monster and has locked her up in an insane asylum for a year. The world around her is falling apart but she isn't quite sure what is going on she was been locked up so long she  barely remembers what the outside world is like or even a breath of fresh air feels like. The government is completely changed and The Reestablishment has taken over, their goal is destroy any and all history of civilization and start over new. They want to destroy books, everything that has a trace to the way that life once was. Everything changes when Juliette receives a roommate, Adam.

Everything about this book was awesome, the dystopian world which didn't seem all that unbelievable for the future, each and every character was so memorable although I was disappointed at the fact that there wasn't much lightness to many aspects of the book and I love of it was series especially Juliette, she never really had many moments where you felt her happiness and I  wished I could have had more of that, maybe in the next book!

Overall, Shatter me is definitely one of my favorite reads this year and I can't wait to finish up Unravel me, and I hope to have my review up for it by tomorrow!

  2. Great review! I really didn't like this book so I'm not sure if I should try reading Unravel Me. I'm on the fence because I don't like to leave series unfinished but at the same time I wasn't a fan of the writing style or Juliette.

  3. OMG! Your review is making me desperate to read Shatter Me. I've heard good buzz about it but you definitely have me convinced :) The premise, thE FREAKIN INTENSE COVER askdfljl and the eerily realistic dystopian setting... I'm smitten and I haven't even started it yet.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful review xo
