My Thoughts:
This was the
first book that I read by Cate Tiernan, I had read a review from another
blogger, I can't remember who and I immediately picked this book up, I wasn't
sure what to expect going into it but,
Tiernan weaved a beautiful story of life, redemption, and change. It was a
wonderful story and definitely a nice break from many of the other immortal
books that I have read.
Nastasya is
an immortal party girl, until one night her best friend does something that doesn't
sit right with her, he tortures a human for no reason at all. Nastasya decides
that she needs a change and she remembers meeting a woman long ago who told her
of a place for immortals, basically an immortal rehab. When Nastasya first
arrives she meets a sexy and mysterious man who she feels like she recognizes
but, when you have lived for a century you can't remember every person you
meet. Learning to live a real life again, Nastasya has to face everything in
her past that she has been running from.
I really
enjoyed Nastasya because this book was different from many of the b books that
I have read that involve immortals have not been as deep as this one and really
engaged me. Tiernan really made me connect with her character by showing you
that living forever is not as easy as it sounds. I feel like every single
person can related to coming to a point or a time in their life where they
didn't understand how they had gotten their or felt like they needed a change.
I couldn't imagine living for a hundred years and being the exact same person
during that time. The road to recovery was long and hard for Nasty, filled with
obstacles and challenges along the way , each time she made progress I could
feel myself being proud for her, rooting for her, and wanting her to succeed.
This book also involves magic and history which I really enjoyed. Learning
about the history of Nasty and immortals was so interesting and it captivated
me each time we got to learn about it.
This book
was a great break from typical YA, and I definitely recommend it to older
readers only because I feel like they will appreciate it more. Definitely pick
this one up, I already got the second book and I can't wait to see where
Tiernan will take me.

I had this book on my radar for quite a while now, but I deleted it from my tbr list. Not sure why, but I could never find a copy of it & I didn't want to order it online. Now, after reading your review, I might have to check it out a bit more. It sounds really good and I do want to read more paranormal books. :)

I read Tiernan's Sweep series years ago and was obsessed with it (I highly recommend it) so I knew I had to get Immortal Beloved Unfortunately, though, I felt like it was all promise with no real pay-out. The potential was there, but for me, Tiernan never really delivered. I know a lot of people loved this book, though, so that could be more about my reading hang-ups.
