Review: Sever (Chemical Garden #3) By: Lauren Destefano

Title: Sever (Chemical Garden #3)
Author: Lauren Destefano
Published: February 12th, 2013
My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Goodreads Summary:

Time is running out for Rhine in this conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Chemical Garden Trilogy.

With the clock ticking until the virus takes its toll, Rhine is desperate for answers. After enduring Vaughn’s worst, Rhine finds an unlikely ally in his brother, an eccentric inventor named Reed. She takes refuge in his dilapidated house, though the people she left behind refuse to stay in the past. While Gabriel haunts Rhine’s memories, Cecily is determined to be at Rhine’s side, even if Linden’s feelings are still caught between them.

Meanwhile, Rowan’s growing involvement in an underground resistance compels Rhine to reach him before he does something that cannot be undone. But what she discovers along the way has alarming implications for her future—and about the past her parents never had the chance to explain.

In this breathtaking conclusion to Lauren DeStefano’s Chemical Garden trilogy, everything Rhine knows to be true will be irrevocably shattered.

My Thoughts:

When I got ready to read this book I really had no idea what to expect, I had no idea how Lauren was going to end it and I loved not knowing what was going to happen and honestly this book was filled with  so much! I almost was a little bit disappointed because so much happened in this book that I wish happened in the second book so that we could learn more about all of the  events then we got to in  this book.  It almost didn't feel like it should be the last book although, it did wrap up the series so much happened in this book even more then in the last two in my opinion.

I don't even want to try to summarize what happened in this book because I don't want to spoil anything, I was so surprised at how this one went. We got to see so much of Cecily and Linden in this book and I really enjoyed it. Cecily's character was definitely the one that grew the most. Considering back to her character in the first book is so young and has so much hope filled inside of her that Vaughn will find a cure and save them all, she has grown into a young woman and the only wife left of Linden she has had a lot to carry on her shoulders. She was so much stronger in this book and I found myself being proud of the person she had became and really coming to like her character even more.

We finally get to meet Rhine's brother, I don't know what I was expecting from him considering  we have heard so much about him in the last two books but, I was disappointed in finally getting to meet him. Although there was a huge twist I totally didn't see coming he wasn't anything special.

Overall, Sever was  definitely an exciting ending to a great trilogy, never lacking in surprises and twists, I am so excited to read her new series with the first book, Perfect Ruin coming out in October 2013 and part of a series called Internment Chronicles, which takes place on a floating island in the clouds, sounds super awesome!

  1. I've read Wither and totally love it!
But my friend said that the second book wasn't as great as the first one, so I'm not really sure whether I should continue reading it or not.

But your review totally got me intrigued enough to continue. Thank you for sharing! :D

  2. I wanted more too! I was fairly happy with how it wrapped up though.

  3. Excited to read this. Even without reading it, I can see how it could have used more happening in the 2nd book instead of the 3rd. But I'm excited to see where she goes with it. And looking forward to seeing Cecily's growth.
