Review: Sweet Peril (Sweet Triology #2) By: Wendy Higgins

Title: Sweet Peril (The Sweet Trilogy #2)
Author: Wendy Higgins
Published: April 30th, 2013

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Goodreads Summary :

Anna Whitt, the daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a vow. She’d been naive about a lot of things.

Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.

When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?

My Thoughts:

I was so excited to read this one,  Sweet Peril was one of my most anticipated reads of 2013  and I couldn't wait to read it, I was definitely ready to swoon some more over Kai and see where  Anna's journey was going to take her next. Higgins definitely delivered in the sequel it had everything that I was hoping for and even more.  I am dying for the last book because Sweet Peril contained so much more mystery and adventure then the first.

Anna has definitely changed from the first book, not necessarily in a bad way but, because she had to. She is still the sweet girl that everybody loves but, she has had to become what the Dukes thing the Neph should be and she  has to start working and put up with demon  whisperers  following her every move and forcing her to be someone she doesn't completely want to be. As much as she hates to admit it, the pull from drugs and alcohol are strong on Anna and she really has to fight against herself to not get lost in the partying. When, she receives a message from the angels, her dad  sends her Kopano around the world recruiting Neph to help, Neph who don't want to follow the Duke's and are on their side. She felt like she was really becoming strong and she was ready to change the lives of all of the Nephilim around the world.

We get to see a lot more of Kopano in the beginning of the book, there has been a bit of a love triangle with him,  Anna, and Kaiden . Although it never feels like a true love triangle because there really isn't a competition for Anna's heart it has always been  Kaiden. I always picture Kope has the strong, silent, and stoic type. He knows how Anna feels about Kai, but I still felt for him because you could tell her really had feelings for Anna, but he never really had a chance. But, the fact that he accepted all this and continued to help  Anna and be by her side while globetrotting around the world, showed how mature he was and just an overall good person.

Kaiden, Oh Kaiden, how I love him. Kaiden has definitely changed from who he was in the first book. Anna has changed him so much more then she even realized in the beginning of the book. She hasn't seen Kaiden since the end of the first book, and she  can't with the demon whisperers watching all of the Nephilim closely none of them can risk being seen together by then and the Duke's finding out. But, his and Anna's relationship definitely changed from what it was in the first book and for all of the Kaiden lovers out there I think you will be just as happy as I was at the romance in this one.

Overall, Sweet Peril was an awesome  read,  the stakes were higher and I was on the edge of my seat  with all of the action that we get to see.  We get to see all of the secondary characters that we know and love from the first book and we also get introduced to a few new ones that definitely shake up the dynamic of the group.  I can't wait to read the last book , I have a feeling that there is an epic fight coming between the Nephilim and the Duke's and I can't wait to see what happens!

  1. Great review, Kristin! I'm happy to hear that there's lots of Kopano in this book as he's my favorite character. Too bad that he really doesn't have a chance with Anna though. :(
