Title: Greta and the Goblin King (Mylena Chronicles #1)
Author: Chloe Jacobs
Published: November 13th, 2012
My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars!
Goodreads  Summary:

While trying to save her brother from a witch’s fire four years ago, Greta was thrown in herself, falling through a portal to Mylena, a dangerous world where humans are the enemy and every ogre, ghoul, and goblin has a dark side that comes out with the eclipse.

To survive, Greta has hidden her humanity and taken the job of bounty hunter—and she’s good at what she does. So good, she’s caught the attention of Mylena’s young goblin king, the darkly enticing Isaac, who invades her dreams and undermines her will to escape.

But Greta’s not the only one looking to get out of Mylena. An ancient evil knows she’s the key to opening the portal, and with the next eclipse mere days away, every bloodthirsty creature in the realm is after her—including Isaac. If Greta fails, she and the lost boys of Mylena will die. If she succeeds, no world will be safe from what follows her back...

My Review:

I enjoyed this one so much, it had a little bit of everything. I loved the fairy tale aspect of the whole story and Greta was definitely one of those kick ass heroines that I will remember. It was an adventure from the very beginning that keep me turning each page.

Greta is a human, thrown into a portal to save her brother after he was lured into a strange cave by a witch. She has hidden her humanity from this world, with the help of a sprite named Luke who found her and taught her how to survive in this world and become a bounty hunter. Greta was strong and brave, she accepted her fate. I was a little disappointed when reading because I wanted more world building. I was intrigued with the whole world of Mylena and I wanted to know more. As Greta went along her journey we did get to learn more, but it just wasn't enough for me.

Isaac, the Goblin King is after her. He is intrigued with her and wants to know her. After a mistake, he is able to gain access into her dreams, and invade and speak to her there. As the story progresses he  becomes a love interest but, at no point through the book did I root for him or like him at all! I am not sure if he was written that way or if it was just me but, he was so angry and possessive at Greta through much of the book. Although their definitely was a connection between the two of them, I kept thinking that he was a little bit evil, although I imagine very good looking lol, he did redeem himself a little bit towards the end, and I am so curious to see where he goes in the next book.

There was a little bit of a love triangle, Greta comes across a group of rag tag human boys while on her journey through the forest. She is so surprised because she never thought she would see people like her again, with the eclipse coming soon, she couldn't just abandoned them to fend for themselves against the monsters that she knows are coming after them. I could see their was the beginnings of love triangle with the leader of the boys, Wyatt. But, by the end of the book he didn't seem to matter, but I guess I will just have to wait for the next one to find out.

Overall this was a fresh and fun debut. Anyone who enjoys fairytales and fantasy is sure to enjoy this. It wasn't a complicated fantasy, so you don't have to worry too much about being weighed down in details, definitely give this one a try!
