Author: Emily Hainsworth

My Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
Goodreads Summary:
Camden Pike
has been grief-stricken since his girlfriend, Viv, died. He’d give anything to
have just one more glimpse of her. But when Cam visits the site of Viv’s deadly
car accident, he sees an apparition. Her name is Nina, and
she’s a girl from a parallel world. When Cam follows here there and makes an
unbelievable discovery, it’s as if all his wildest dreams have come true. But
things are very different in this other world. Nina is hiding a secret, and the
window between the worlds is shrinking every day. As Cam comes to terms with
the truth, he’s forced to make a choice that will change his life forever.
My Thoughts:
This was a
powerful debut about love, loss, and second chances. This was such an
interesting plot for a book and I was so excited to read it but, the only thing
that really disappointed me was that the summary pretty much told you the whole
entire book before you even read but, I will admit there was a couple
surprising twists that I wasn't expecting.
Camden was a
memorable and powerful character. He is completely broken over the loss of his
girlfriend. Viv was his best friend and the two of them only had each other. I
loved having a male narrator and getting to see inside of his head. The
character of Nina that he meets played such a bigger part in the story then I
had thought she would and I really loved her. She was so strong and I enjoyed her
character so much, I had wished she was in the book even more because she
quickly became my favorite.
Overall, I
enjoyed this book so much. The one disappointment of this book for me was the
pacing. I felt like the story dragged on in places, and I did tend to get bored
while I was reading. But, overall the story was a great read. A powerful
contemporary with a paranormal twist. A great debut, and I am so excited to see
what Emily Hainsworth writes next!
Ooh so glad you liked this!! I won it and I can't wait to read it now it sounds SO powerful and gripping! :) Great review! Sorry you didn't like some of the pacing though.
ReplyDeleteI heard both the good and the bad on this one. In all honesty, I love your review. It makes me want to pick it up right now. You can tell you enjoyed it but at the same time it wasn't perfect. I love books like that. You've got a fan in me :)
