The Unbecoming Of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer #1) By: Michelle Hodkin

Title: The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer
Author: Michelle Hodkin
Published: September 7th, 2012
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars!
Goodreads Summary:

Mara Dyer doesn’t think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.

It can.

She believes there must be more to the accident she can’t remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.

There is.

She doesn’t believe that after everything she’s been through, she can fall in love.

She’s wrong.

My Thoughts:

This book was absolutely perfect for me! I don't enjoy anything scary or being s cared at all, I hate horror movies and even one's that are really suspenseful. But, this book has just the right amount of creepiness that could keep me reading without freaking me out too much and making me quit reading. I picked this one up for a read along with O'Dell at Book Twirps and I was really excited that I finally decided to read it. I had heard so many great things about it I couldn't wait to see for myself. Well I am sorry to say the read-a-long didn't work out because I couldn't put the book down! Every time I read what we were to read for that week all I could think about was how much I wanted to keep reading and find out what happened next.  I couldn't keep going at the slow pace of reading it, whenever I would put it down for the week, seriously all I could think about was this book. I was completely in love.

I was immediately intrigued by Mara and everything she was going through.  She is the sole survivor of the building collapse that killed her friends. Strange and unexplainable things are happening to her, flashbacks of her dead friends, and many other creepy things that I won't spoil. As she begins her new life in Florida it's not easy, her mom is a psychiatrist and watching her every move, evaluating her, making sure she is ok. Everything changes when she meets the mysterious and alluring Noah Shaw, he is gorgeous, lived in London, and they can't seem to stay away from each other.
The romance in this book was so steamy, I have a new all time favorite book boyfriend in Noah, I am completely and utterly in love with him. I loved reading about him the most, him and Mara's relationship is complicated. I have read some reviews comparing him to Edward, but I don't see it all. He is sarcastic and funny, but you could really see the way he cared for Mara. It only made him more irresistible in my eyes.  I could spend this whole entire review gushing about my love for him but, I will try not to.

I also loved the fact that Mara was the middle child, she has an older brother Daniel, and a younger brother Joseph. Daniel was such a great older brother. He always looked out for Mara, as well as helped her with her parents. Got her out of things and kept an eye on her as much as he could. I have said this in reviews before but, I really don't feel like there is enough family in most YA books today.

This book was filled with so many different genre's which I really enjoyed if I had to describe it I would called it paranormal with a psychological thriller, and creepy twist. I can honestly say it is one of the book that I have enjoyed reading more than any book I can think of in a long time. Whenever I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about it, wondering about the plot, and trying to think of what was going to happen next. When I was reading it I couldn't turn the pages fast enough, and when it ended I was dying for more. Although at parts I did feel confused at what was going on I felt like it was a part of the book and it just added to it. Everything made sense for the feel and the plot of it and I have a feeling more will be revealed in the next books, and I can't wait to find out. Have you guys read this one? What did you think, did you enjoy the mystery and confusion? If you haven't read this book I seriously say give it a chance, I put it off for so long and the whole entire time I was kicking myself saying why have a deprived myself of such an amazing read! Give me your thoughts in the comments!

Happy Reading!
Kristin
